Do you want to score better?

Your score is undoubtedly an essential element whenever someone decides your capabilities. Thus even those students who are not interested in academics have a very strong hype to get a good SGPA in semester exams of college. The question is if the classes remain the same and everybody has the common recommended books and their notes then why do we observe dispersion in marks of class? Why is it so that people want to have good marks but don’t know the way? This creates ambiguity among students that at the end of the day forces them to cheat. This is because they don’t know the way to get to the destination but can’t deny the significance of their semester grades. This blog will provide you with some answer-writing tips that you must follow while writing an examination:-

Start with good handwriting

Students under graduation especially from subjects of humanities,  need to write mini booklets in the examination. On average to score good marks, it generally takes 40 pages for each examination. Thus it becomes difficult for college students to manage good handwriting throughout the examination. It is a well-known fact that the first impression is the last, thus it becomes necessary that you start with your best handwriting. If you start with good handwriting, it becomes understandable at the end of the examination with some average level of handwriting. This will help your answer sheet in impression formation.

Learn to elaborate

Sometimes we are not aware of facts and figures. Either we know some limited facts or we know a lot of facts. In case of deficiency of facts try to elaborate the factual data. Please change paragraphs and points frequently that will help to make an impression that your concepts are completely clear. Thus elaboration is the skill you require here.

In the case where you have an excessive amount of facts then you should learn the skill to write concisely. You must use fewer words to put forward more facts. This will make your answer a comprehensive one

Use technical words

Words are the things that describe the final victory. Please accumulate your dictionary of technical words of the concept you are studying. Even the situations when you lack time to complete an answer, You can make a chart of the technical words that you have learned. You will be awarded some marks in the examination as this makes an impression that you knew the answer but under certain circumstances, you couldn’t write it

Effective time management

Time management by the distribution of answers is one of the crucial things that you must follow. You must have decided on a prior basis how much time you are going to provide for each answer. For instance, you have decided that for a 20-marker answer, you will devote your precious 40 minutes. Thereafter in any situation, you must not exceed the time limit. In case you find that there are many concepts that you need to mention, just make a chart and conclude the answer. Time management is one of the things that will make you way ahead

Try the answer first which you know

The answer that you know means that you have the clarity of the concepts here. The concepts in which you are clear will tend to increase your writing speed. This will not only save you time but also help you to build confidence that you are doing well in your examinations. Thus please attempt those questions first which you know very well. For this, a prior quick glimpse of the question paper is required.

Revise your notes one day prior

No matter how much you have the clarity in concepts, you must require the revision. This revision will help you to crystallize the concepts and will help you to make mind maps. This will help you to relate the different concepts in an effective way that will make your concepts more comprehensive. Try to make your answer logical and reasonable. This will help your answer to be more effective. Thus whatever notes that you are having and the technical words, you must revise it one day prior.

Thus in a nutshell we shall conclude that we must make the answer comprehensive, concise, and elaborative which will surely attract a very nice CGPA to you. Remember that it is just your answer writing skill that will help you score good marks. Sometimes your words matter a lot. If you are wise enough to use your words, this will surely benefit you.

Mock Exams Cause Problem For Final Year Students of DU

Mock Exams for Open Book Exams (OBE) of Delhi University is again into the news and for all the wrong reasons. Recently the OBE portal again crashed many times, when the students tried to login for giving the mock tests.

BMS Students Complain Of No Test Papers In The OBE Portal

Additionally, the students of Business Management Studies of the university could not access any of the test papers in the three days. This period of mock tests is the first phase of the same. The reason for the same is that no mock papers were available on the portal. They were not uploaded. When the students reach the teachers, they were informed that it was a mistake from the end of the University. Additionally, the teachers and professors are as helpless as the students.

Further, the mock tests began from July 27 and came to an end on July 29. However, the students of this course could not access their test papers as no papers were available. Moreover, students from various other disciplines also had complaints regarding the same.

Harshita Runthala, a students of MSc Statistics from Lady Shri Ram College also complained regarding not finding papers. She said, ” We had two days slotted for the mock test but when I logged in, I did not find even one paper on July 27.”

Additionally, Rohan Kumar, a students of BMS from Shaheed Sukhdev College also informed his problems. He said,” “We expected at least an old question paper to be uploaded on the portal but nothing was there. We called our teachers and they said that maybe we will get one slot on the last day — July 29 – but that did not happen either.”

Moreover, Roshan also threw light on the new format. Additionally, the new format asks the students to upload each page of the answer sheet separately. Rohan added, ” “It is difficult to upload a compiled file in the first place. If we have to upload 40 to 50 pages of answer sheets then it becomes 40 times harder to upload.”

The National Federation of Blind has moved to Delhi High Court against the Delhi University’s decision to conduct Online: Open book examination of the final semester/year, even the visually impaired students across all programmes.

The Federation stated that the blind students who have returned back to their homes in remote parts of the country during the mid sem break, will not be able to avail the scribes during tht ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

The organisation is among others who have moved to the Delhi High Court with the petition against Delhi University’s decision to conduct OBE which was announced on May 14 by the varsity. Hundreds of teachers and students have been protesting against the same.

Mr. S. K. Rungta, General Secretary of the National Federation Of The Blind, argued that blind students are more vulnerable to the virus, as they depend on “touch” more than anyone else.

Though the decision of OBE has met with a lot of criticism, the University seems to be firm with its decision.

Delhi University had earlier issued the examination guidelines for students with disabilities, which allowed a five- hours OBE. Nonetheless, the Federation has filed a petition and suggested that the visually impaired students be promoted on the basis of an offline examination and Internal Assessment marks.

“The federation has prayed for directions to the university, UGC, and the ministry to either declare the result of visually impaired and other disabled students on the basis of their performance on the previous semester marks…or offline open book examination one week after reopening of colleges and universities in the ratio of 50 percent marks for offline exam and 50 percent for internal assessment,” the federation said in a statement.

Admissions 2020-2021:

“If the university conduct open book examination…in July, it is most likely that most of the blind students would not be able to pursue any course during the academic session 2020-21, as the university process the entire test for other courses between July 25 and the first week of August,” Mr. S. K. Gupta said in a statement.

“Visually impaired students will not be able to participate( in the entrance exams) as they would not be able to appear in the proposed open book…exams in July 2020,” Mr. Gupta added.

The decision of an OBE in July is discriminatory for the visually impaired and physically challenged students. According to the UGC guidelines, the start of admissions in September means “depriving blind and other disabled students of their fundamental right of equality in the matter of participating in the examination and pursuing future studies,” according to the federation.

#DuAgainstOnlineExams

The students of Delhi University has taken their stand against the online examination and begin posting on Twitter and other social media platforms using hashtags #duagainstonlineexams and #educationwithoutexclusion.

Amidst the lockdown, the University plans to conduct the examinations for the final year students if COVID-19 threat prevails.

Students took to Twitter to express their disappointment with the University’s decision, pointing out the difficulties they are facing.

1. Lack of study materials/ resources
Most of the out-stationed students went back to their homes during the mid-sem break and with the lockdown they got struck with no possibility of getting back to their colleges or accessing the study materials. Many students revealed that online classes have not been conducted for most of the courses and they are facing a huge problem. Inadequate resources and no proper revision leaves the students helpless.

2. Network Connectivity and Lack of Electronic Gadgets
Internet connectivity is one of the major issues the students are dealing with. Lack of proper electronic gadgets like phone, computer or laptop makes it nearly impossible for students coming from poor households to appear for the exams.

3. No Alternative for Visually/ Physically Handicapped Students
While the University gives an equal opportunity for the differently abled students but the decision turns out to be unfair and discriminatory for them.

The outrage arose after University’s decision to conduct online examinations for final year students was announced on May 14.

open book examination

In accordance with the UGC guidelines, Delhi University has taken into consideration the proposal to conduct an online open book; take home examination for the final year students in both regular colleges and SOL and NCWEB.

The letter written by the Dean Examinations, Vinay Gupta has detailed the guidelines for the examinations. The letter addressed to the HODs states that, “The University is actively considering the option of the conduct of open book; tale home examination for students of final year of all streams i.e. of regular, SOL and NCWEB. The students will be provided with question paper which will have to be downloaded. It will be of a 2 hours duration. One additional hour would be given for downloading the question paper, scanning of answer sheets and uploading the answer sheets on the portal.”

The open book examination will allow students to refer to their class notes, books and online study materials.

The open book examination has aroused an opposition from teachers and Deans. Deans consider this kind of approach as “practically impossible” and “not feasible”. Teachers raised an objection against this system as a large portion of students struggle with poor connectivity and a lack of access to study materials. National Students Union of India(NSUI) has also opposed to this proposal. “Due to lack of proper resources, students have faced a difficulty in understanding various concepts and topics in the syllabus. Many students could not attend the classes due to lack of resources like mobile phones or laptop,” the largest student democracy body of India has said.
